The Banff Mountain Film Festival is starting it’s world tour today. The best of the films from the festival are being played for the next 5 days at National Geographic’s headquarters in DC. Unfortunately, all the tickets for that location are sold out. It’s not all bad news though, our friends at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports will be playing the videos on March 14th at their Blacksburg location and on March 11th and 12th at their Charlottesville location.
Here’s a quick blurb on the film festival:
For 36 years during the first week of November, thousands of extreme-sports enthusiasts and filmmakers have descended on the little town of Banff, in the Canadian Rockies, to savor the world’s top films on mountain sports and cultures. The best films are then selected and they embark on a world tour.
One of the videos I’m most excited about is called “On Assignment: Jimmy Chin” who was hired by National Geographic to photograph and shoot videos focused on the culture of climbing. I’ve included that video below, as well as a list of all the videos that will be on the 2011/2012 world tour.
