From Boulder, Colorado and at only 19 years old, Margo Hayes made history just days ago with her ascent of La Rambla (5.15a)! This route was first discovered in 1994 and was considered to be the most difficult sport routes in Spain. The 45 meter climb has attracted some of the most skilled climbers over the years with the likes of Adam Ondra and Jonathan Siegrist.
Hayes had been studying abroad in France and used a short break from school to attempt La Rambla. She had only been climbing in Spain for 10 days and almost made the ascent on Feb 25th. Determined, Hayes pushed her flight back to France by a few days. With that decision, she is the first woman to climb a confirmed 9a+/5.15a! Hayes was also the first woman to send Bad Girls Club (5.14d) just last August.
